Academic Advisement

Although the College of Arts and Sciences will endeavour to provide timely and accurate advisement, it is the responsibility of the student to know and to satisfy the degree requirements of his/her academic program. It is suggested that students receive regular departmental advisement at least twice during your last two years of study. At the end of 60 hours course work and 90 hours of course work. 

For advisement questions, please see the Undergraduate Coordinator, Kathy Rockwell in room 402 Kell Hall (biokxr@langate.gsu.edu)  She can help direct you to an appropriate faculty advisor or premed advisor.  When you meet with Kathy or an advisor, it is best ot have a a copy of your Academic Evalutation. The Academic Evaluation will list the courses you have taken and the courses that you need to take to fulfill the requirements.

At the bottom of the page, select: Generate Evaluation
When Printing, please use Landscape mode to fit the entire evaluation.

Advisement - Whom Do I Contact

• Graduation Audits - Drop off in 402 Kell Hall to be signed by a faculty member. The audits will be available for pick-up in the Biology office in approximately 48 hours. After students have picked them up they need to sign them also and return them to the Graduation Office
  
  
• Pre-requisite Waiver Request - If you do not have the pre-requisite then you will need to fill out the online form and get permission from the instructor and have him/her send an email to Kathy Rockwell biokxr@langate.gsu.edu.
  
  
• Removal of a hold - You must contact the department that placed the hold on your account. You can find this information by logging into your GoSolar account, look under Student Records Menu and view holds.
  
  
• Registration Errors - If you have one of the following errors please follow the instructions accordingly.
  1. Pre-req and Test-Score - (Confirm that you have the proper pre-requisite by clicking on the CRN in the schedule of classes)-- If you do have the pre-reqs then fill out the pre-requisite waiver form.
  2. Department - Kathy Rockwell 402 Kell Hall biokxr@langate.gsu.edu (404) 413-5305.
  3. Level Restriction - You are trying to register for the graduate section of the class.
  4. Time Conflict - Two of your classes are overlapping. All conflicts are decided on a case by case basis. If any time conflict is greater than 10 minutes we will not consider giving an override

• Transient Status (Approval for courses taken off campus) - Office of Academic Assistance 720 General Classroom Building
  
  
• Waitlist/Overflows - Fill out the waitlist/overflow form online. Waitlists will not be enforced until one month before the start of the semester. This means you will need to continue to check GoSolar for open seats until that time. Overflows will only be given out (in order of the waitlist) to those who attend the first week of class. You will be notified through email if you are eligible for an overflow.
  
  
• Transfer Credit Request - Fill out the request form available online (PDF). Be sure you have given as much of the information as possible or the request will be denied. Drop off completed forms in the Biology office, 402 Kell Hall. Please allow two to three weeks for your request to be reviewed.
