Research Facilities
This Core Facilities (DNA/Protein) has developed over the last three years into a highly sophisticated, biotechnical support system. It was formed as a result of both a Departmental/College commitment to upgrade the facilities in the Natural Sciences within the University, and a number of grants awarded by the Georgia Research Alliance initiative.
DNA
The core facilities (DNA/Protein) provides DNA sequencing service at a competitive price with a 3–4 working day turnaround time. Also available is the GeneChip Instrument System from Affymetrix, one of the most popular microarray analysis platforms available. Service includes training in sample prep and analysis. Hybridization, Fluidics and scanning are done by trained Core facility personnel.
Proteomics
The core facilities (DNA/Protein) provides several options for protein analysis and identification. Ciphergen Protein Chip system uses time of Flight Mass Spectrophotometor based on SELDI technology. 2-D electrophoresis and protein mass analysis is also available either as a service or training on available 2-D equipment.
Generic Core Services
Trained Core facility personnel provide Atomic Force microscope and analytical ultracentrifuge service. The AFM gives a topological survey of molecules with nM resolution. The XL-analytical ultracentrifuge is an analytical centrifuge, that measures physical properties of sedimenting particle.
Equipment
Here you will find a number of resources and guidelines for the use of assorted instruments within the core facility.
