Regular Staff | Staff Limited Term | Student Employees


Regular Staff

Process requires 3 weeks minimum

  • Create a Position Review Form GSU web, HR, Forms, Position Review Form.
  • A memo to the Dean is required if State Funds are to be used. Memos accompanies “PRF” form.
  • Position Vacancy Form needed to post the position on the web when title is approved. Do at the same time as PRF to avoid lost time. GSU website, HR, Forms, Vacancy Form
  • The Chairman is the "Hiring Official" on the Position Vacancy Form
  • When candidate selection is approved by Affirmative Action, notify employee
  • A PAF is created for your review and signature.
  • New staff member should arrange an appointment with Dione Morton for new-hire orientation.
  • When employee terminates, please notify Dione Morton ASAP. Employee should make an appointment with her for termination instructions.
FAQ's
  • Postdoctoral positions do not require posting/advertising etc. This is the only staff osition at GSU that does not require approval prior to hiring.

  • Research Scientist and Research Associates do not have a salary range, a duties list or BOR Job Code.

  • There is a 6 month probation period for all GSU staff new hires. If hiring from another department, there is no probation period provided the employee has been employed at GSU for 6 Months.

  • Staff members only have 30 days to choose benefits. A new employee should make an appointment with me for orientation ASAP. Our discussion will include time sheet and or leave sheet process, the green packet as well as other important departmental information.

  • A Vacancy Posting form is required if you are filing an open position.

  • You may open a position prior to the departure of the employee who has given notice.

  • Positions may be posted for 5 working days if the title requested has been determined “no-under-utilization” by Comp/Class.

  • You may open a position to current campus employees only if you feel the candidate poolcould be satisfied within the University workforce. Internal Applicants Only. This would not include Temp Non-Stu and Student Assist. Only other regular and limited term staff employees.

 

Staff Limited Term

Process requires 2 weeks minimum

  • A Vacancy Posting Form (2 pages) is required.
    GSU Website, HR, Form, Class/Comp, Vacancy Form
  • Hiring Official on the 2nd page of the form is always the Chairman
  • A memo to the Dean will need to be attached if the position is funded by State funds
  • Candidates apply. PI will have to do a minimum of 3 interviews.
FAQ's
  • Limited Term Employee share the same benefits as regular staff.

  • The projected completion of duties not to exceed 3 years.

  • If it is possible that the project will extend beyond 3 years, a regular position will have to be created and candidate may apply. Process takes several weeks to complete.
    There is NO extension beyond the 3 year time limit.

  • If a position is advertised for an expected 3 years, andis completed prior to the 3 years, the PI should give notice to the employee in writing so there is no misunderstanding regarding the end date of employment. Hopefully this scenario has been discussed prior to hiring.

  • There are no titles for Limited Term employees.
    There are no guidelines regarding salaries of Limited Term employees.

  • Employee may be employed immediately as a “temp” and transfer when Limited Term position is approved.
Student Employees

Employee may start work immediately

Forward an email to Dione Morton with the following information:

  • Name of employee
  • Rate of Pay per hour
  • Account – Speedtype Code
  • Start Date
  • Student or Non Student
  • Location and tel # of work station
  • Email address of the candidate
  • Notify me by email when student / temp employee terminates. Include last day of work.
FAQ's
  • Employee to fill out new hire pink packet (make an appointment with me)
  • Student/Temp Time sheets located on GSU/human resources/forms website
  • All time sheets must be computer generated.
  • Printed time sheets to be signed and dated in ink by employee and supervisor.
  • Time sheets must be delivered to 422A Kell Hall all prior to HR due date.
  • Temp employees are assigned for 6 months or less. If you need a concurrent extension, you may request a 1 time, 6 month extension by sending an email to:

  • A 30 day break is required before you are allowed to re-hire a temp for another 6 months after your 6 month extension.
